Thakudu Project Milestone
MET63, in conjunction with Thakadu, is proud to announce the success of the Thakadu project, the first Nickel Purification Plant for South Africa. The Thakadu plant is designed to produce 2500 tons / month of high purity battery grade nickel sulphate from a crude nickel sulphate stream, supplied by partner Lonmin.
MET63 was awarded the project as the dedicated EPCM company and is currently in the installation phase. Various sections of the process plant are underway with equipment fabrication and supply from the designated vendors. MET63 has put forward its highly experienced team of engineers to work on the execution of the Thakadu project and commissioning is envisaged to commence in April 2019. A dedicated MET63 project management team conducts weekly site visits to the primary fabricator ensuring scope of work and deliverables are in accordance for the scheduled installation and commissioning dates.
MET63 and Thakadu worked together to develop the final process design for the project, which entailed extensive laboratory testing at Mintek all the way through to process design.
Both companies are extremely proud of this project milestone and the innovative technology developed in South Africa. A true indication of the engineering capabilities in South Africa. A vision became the reality, and the first Nickel Sulphate plant in South Africa was conceptualised.
The technological processes used in the plant design are highlighted below:
- Resin Recovery
- Ion Exchange
- Reverse Osmosis
- Nano Filtration
- Solid / Liquid Separation High Pressure Filtration
- Solid / Liquid Separation Vacuum Pressure Filtration
MET63 has had the opportunity to push boundaries and provide a working solution within a very fast-tracked project execution time frame. The driving force for MET63 is delivery on time and within budget.
